West Highland Way Walking Holidays

west highland way walking holidays - celtic trails - loch lomond

A walking holiday on the West Highland Way leads you through some of the most magnificent scenery to be found in Scotland

The West Highland Way’s  a splendid way-marked route from Milngavie, near Glasgow northwards, past  the shores of Loch Lomond,  through  beautiful sharp landscapes of the Western Highlands,  to Fort William, beneath Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain
The 95miles (152 km) follows mainly droving and 18C military 'roads' that linked the highlands to the lowlands and is challenging in places

From remote woodland and rich farmland between the Kilpatrick Hills and the Campsie Fells, it reaches beautiful shores of Loch Lomond, Scotland 's largest loch. The trail climbs, through the wonderful Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park , Rob Roy country and his cave, Glen Falloch past the dramatic Falls of Falloch to the village of Crianlarich , Glen Dochart and Strath Fillan. From here it is on to Tyndrum, where Robert the Bruce was defeated in 1306 by the MacDougalls, and to the famous Bridge of Orchy

You pass Loch Tulla, cross the remote, wild landscape of Rannoch Moor and the head of Glencoe, infamous for the treacherous massacre of the MacDonald Clan clan massacre of 1692.  From under the towering peaks of Meall A'Bhuiridh and Buachaille Etive Mor, the trail scales the ‘Devil’s Staircase’, which offers breathtaking mountain views, before making the descent to sea level at the head of Loch Leven

The final stage of the West Highland Way presents magnificent views down on to Loch Leven as moves across the Lairigmor Pass to Glen Nevis and finally on to Fort William

The West Highland Way is Scotland's busiest trail one of the  most popular long distance trails in Great Britain
