The Saint's Way Trail is a delightful walking holiday, coast to coast across mid-Cornwall, linking Cornwall’s opposite coastlines
The Saint's Way was used by 6th C Celtic Saint Petroc and his followers down the ages; parts of the route are of much earlier Bronze Age origin established by travellers and traders as a short-cut between Ireland and Wales and the south coast of Cornwall, avoiding a hazardous sea passage around Lands End
The 30 miles/48 km trail begins in the picturesque and interesting harbour town of Padstow, now even better known for Rick Stein’s Seafood restaurant! Leaving the north Atlantic coastline you follow the wide Camel Estuary inland. Your route takes a wonderfully varied course through valleys, woodlands, pastures, upland moors and pretty villages.
The surrounding countryside is dotted with rolling pastures of ancient farmland, old trackways and stiles, and medieval bridges. Ancient Churches sit high on the horizon as a visible route marker from many miles away for pilgrims and travellers and 6th C Celtic crosses and many holy wells are still to be found along the Saint’s Way. The trail leads up to the Neolithic standing stones of Helman Tor, a meeting place of much earlier pagan dwellers and the highest point of your walk.
Soon you leave the wilder open countryside, returning to the Cornwalls southern coastline , and to the inlets and creeks deep in Daphne du'Maurier country, ending your walk in the enchanting harbour village of Fowey
The Saint's Way takes you through the spectrum of Cornish Landscape and is perfect short walking holiday…
If you have time why not extend you holiday with a few days walking on the South West Coast Path, from either Padstow or Fowey ~ you will have a wonderful introduction to a superb longer walking holiday you will find hard to resist.
