Great Glen Way Walking Holidays Slighe a'Ghlinne
Mhòir
The Great Glen Way is an easier grade walking holiday than the West Highland Way, which it continues on from at Fort William and is not nearly as busy and well walked. It is an excellent introduction to a walking holiday in Scotland
The Great Glen Way, Ghlinne Mhòir, in Gaelic, leads from Fort William, near the foot of Britain's highest mountain, Ben Nevis, north eastwards across Scotland to the 'capital of the Highlands', Inverness
The 73 mile route follows much of the Caledonian Canal, linking lochs- to- lochs, Loch Ochy, Loch Oich and Loch Ness, connecting the Atlantic Ocean on the west coast of Scotland and the North Sea on the east coast
Great Glen Way leads you along tree-lined canal tow-paths, along lochside woodland paths, forest tracks beneath heather-clad hills and sections of the route climbs high above the shoreline, giving stunning views over Loch Ness
Along your route, you see castles and forts that have seen some of the fiercest battles in Scotland’s turbulent history to give a truly enthralling walk steeped in Scotland's rich heritage
The Great Glen Way can be completed easily in a week, or in unison with the West Highland Way to give you a wonderfully varied two-week walking holiday across Scotland’s finest scenery
