A walking holiday in La Gruyère , with its beautiful lake the lac de Gruyère, the mountains of the Pre-Alps, the Moléson (2002m.) and the Vanil Noir(2400m.), is like walking through a miniature Switzerland within Switzerland. In the south is l’Intyamon -a valley of the Pre-Alps with Gruyère and Moléson as its base; in the east, the
valley of
Jogne is dominated by the Gastlosen mountains and the resorts of Charmey and Jaun La Gruyère is a region of high mountains with deep valleys sheltering traditional wooden houses and hamlets, and offering exceptional unspoilt natural areas in the summits. On the lower slopes you find busy farms and a little further up alpine chalets covered in weatherboards, ready to face tough winters. The main sources of income of the farmers of this 700 m. high area are cattle breeding and milk production
You see many reminders of the predominantly Catholic faith of the people in the numerous churches and chapels scattered in the valleys.
Rather
like its castle, the region of Gruyere is entered through a single,
guarded door; the beautiful town of Bulle. Once inside you are surrounded by jagged mountain
tops and wild summits reaching to 1800m.
You will experience largely unfrequented winding paths (except for odd playful chamois or marmot) and the feeling of peace and tranquility among the timeless mountains. In the evening you will descend to the lively valleys where comfortable hotels and pretty inns await you
