The Beacons Way is an outstanding walking holiday for the connoisseur of unspoilt mountain scenery. You will daily have stunning views from the distinctive wide high escarpments and deep scooped out valleys that are such a feature of the Brecon Beacons
The Beacons Way, is a recent 100mls (161km) mountain walking route through the beautiful Brecon Beacons National Park, the most spectacular mountain area of the South Wales. Walking the 'High Route' across South Wales, much of the journey is across high open countryside away from the crowds. Where you will experience unspoilt beauty and refreshing airy solitude
Beginning near Abergavenny at Ysgyryd Fawr, known as the Holy Mountain, the walk takes you from eastern edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park to its western boundary to finish in Bethlehem, near Llandeilo. (It's little village post office enjoys great popularity with cards during December)
Your walk takes you over the Black Mountain, the Central Beacons and Pen-y-Fan,
the highest point in Southern Britain and the Carmarthen Fans. The Beacons
Way’s roller coaster route climbs and descends through
little towns and hamlets each evening where you will enjoy local Welsh hospitality.
You pass Celtic hill forts, medieval priories and castles, mountain lakes and
resevoirs as well as the occasional vineyard.
And at the end of the day you may find a local Inns or pubs serving a welcome pint of Welsh beer to reward your excursion
The Beacons Way is a trail best suited for experienced and fit walker’s therefore good compass and map-reading skills are essential. This is particularly important as the higher-level routes can experience sudden changes in weather and disorientation can be a problem
